One of my specialities is working with young adults or “twenty-somethings”. I enjoy this work so much! The twenties are full of transitions. Between the age of 20 and 30, there are life transitions within almost every area of life – your education, career, relationships, your physical separation (or not) from the family you grew up with, and perhaps starting a family of your own.
You’re in the midst of figuring out your next steps. You may be moving back in with your parents due to financial pressures. Perhaps you feel pressure from your family or friends and find yourself constantly comparing yourself to other people wondering “Why do I still not know what I want to be when I grow up while some of my friends seem to have it all figured out?” or asking yourself “Where do I go from here? Will I ever become self-sufficient? I thought I’d have my life figured out by now!”.
Maybe you are enduring ups and downs in your friendships and relationships with significant others. Many young women and men find themselves spending time on social media and dating apps and are left feeling poorly about themselves and asking “Why isn’t this working?” or “Will I ever find the “right” person to be with?”. You may even be re-examining your childhood and how it has impacted where you find yourself today with your relationships.
It can be so painful and it may feel like you are never going to get relief from the emotional rollercoaster. I can assure you this is a temporary phase of life and you do not have to go through this alone!
These questions are normal and the struggle to find yourself is part of your journey to adulthood. Often times this journey can bring up feelings of intense worry and sadness. You may even begin questioning your self-worth. Some young adults find that these feelings can affect their sleep, eating habits and physical health.
I am here to support you as you go through this necessary process. You are not alone! I can help you sort through your emotions and guide you in separating out who you were throughout your childhood and how that matches up with the person you strive to be today. We will take it one step at a time and in doing so, you will gain clarity about your path forward. I look forward to supporting you during your journey!
